Scope

The applications include but not limited to speech, audio, video, biomedical, radar, and remote sensing data. The goals of IWSP2019 are as follows:

  • Conducting cutting edge research in the field of signal processing theory
  • Setting the stage for cooperation with eminent international institutions in the area of theoretical signal processing, improving academic ties and training research groups as well as educational staff in related fields
  • Informing national schools and research institutions and interested individuals of the latest scientific achievements in the mentioned theory
  • Cooperation in facilitating the interchange of professors and students between various national and international schools
  • Reinforcing inter-university relationships and training research groups as well as educational staff in the mentioned topics
  • Planning and initializing joint research projects among schools and research institutions
  • Collaboration with research communities in holding conferences and workshops in the fields regarding the mentioned topics

Invited Speakers

Dr.
Farah Torkamani Azar

received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Amirkabir University of Technology, the M.S. degree in communication engineering from the Isfahan University of Technology, and the Ph.D. degree in communication engineering from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. She joined the faculty of electrical engineering at Isfahan University of Technology as assistant professor from 1995 till 2001. From 2001, she has joined the faculty of electrical engineering at Shahid beheshti University. Her research interests include digital signal processing, image processing, neural networks and graph signal processing. Dr. Torkamani Azar chaired the Machine Vision and Image Processing (MVIP2015) conference in Iran, in 2015.

Dr.
Shahrokh Farahmand

was born in Tehran, Iran in 1980. He obtained his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology in 2003 and then moved abroad to pursue his graduate studies. He attended Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at University of Minnesota at Twin Cities (UMN) where he obtained his MSc degree in 2006 and PhD in 2011. Both degrees were conferred under the supervision of Prof. Georgios B. Giannakis. His fields of interest included ultra-wideband impulse radio (UWB-IR), cognitive radio (CR), and wireless sensor networks (WSN) where he published 6 journal and 10 conference papers on these subjects. Upon graduation in 2011, he returned to Iran and joined Iran Research Organization for Science and Technology (IROST) as a research faculty where he carried out projects on possible implementation of cognitive concepts on WSNs and MANETs. Since 2018, he has been an assistant professor at Electrical Engineering Department at Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST). His current fields of interest include IoT random access in massive MIMO, sub-Nyquist rate sampling of UWB-IR, and applications of machine learning in wireless communications and networking. Dr. Farahmand has been the recipient of ADC Graduate Fellowship at UMN from 2003 to 2005.

Dr.
Houman Ghaemmaghami

specialises in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. He completed his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with Honours at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. He then carried out duties as a research scientist on the non-invasive diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea, which led to several patents and remote-health systems. He then completed his PhD in machine learning and speech signal processing, which led to the development of the field of speaker attribution and patents for the invention of a robust speech activity detection, speaker diarization and speaker linking system. He is currently the AI lab director at M3DICINE Pty Ltd and leads the AI research lab and machine learning team in developing the next generation of smart IoT medical devices for remote-health and tele-medicine.

Dr.
Vahid Pourahmadi

 received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Canada, in 2011. He served as a Postdoctoral Fellow in ECE department of the University of Toronto, Canada, held a Technical Staff position at Blackberry Inc, Ottawa, and was a Wireless Research Engineer at the 5G group of Motorola Mobility, Chicago, Illinois. He joined the Amirkabir University of Technology in Sept. 2015, where he is now an assistant professor.  His research interests are mainly on the application of machine learning techniques in wireless systems including 5G and IoT networks.

Dr.
Mohammad-Reza Abolghasemi-Dehaqani

Mohammad-Reza Abolghasemi-Dehaqani He was born on July, 1985, in Dehaqan, Isfahan. In 2003, He entered Amirkabir University of technology. After about 6 years, he majored in artificial intelligence. In 2007, he entered Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (IPM) to start PhD in cognitive neuroscience. At the interface between artificial intelligence and neuroscience Dr. Abolghasemi's researches focus on uncovering the algorithms and brain computation principles. So he records from the neural activity of non-human primate brain engaged in cognitive tasks. Dr. Abolghasemi is assistant professor in the University of Tehran, department of electrical and computer engineering, and researching in IPM at present.

Dr.
Iman Gholampour

Iman Gholampour received his BS, MS and PhD in Electrical Engineering, all from Sharif University of Technology Tehran, Iran. He has worked with several companies and institutes on many digital signal processing and communication projects. His current interests include signal processing systems design and implementation, machine learning, image and video analysis for intelligent traffic systems, Data Analytics and IoT Systems. He is now an assistant professor at Electronics Research Institute, Sharif University of Technology.

Dr.
Mohammad Reza Mohammadi

received the B.Sc., and M.Sc. degrees from the Amirkabir University of Technology, and PhD degree from the Sharif University of Technology in 2009, 2011, and 2015. He is an assistant professor of Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence group, in Iran University of Science and Technology since January 2018. His interests and researches include machine vision, remote sensing, machine learning, and deep learning.
